While in recovery mode, I thought I’d look into a nice time filler – a round the world(aka rtw) trip. Avoiding the usual rtw flight tickets, I thought I try and integrate a number of overland routes. Key sections that would be overland through Europe to Vladivostok (Russia), down through China over to Kathmandu then continue down through Thailand, Indonesia and over to Australia. From Australia, over to Auckland, Rarotonga (the Cook Islands), Honolulu to the Americas. Here it’s a little interesting given the established land and air routes.
Turning south from San Francisco down through Tijuana to Baja California. Boat over to the mainland and head to Mexico City. From Mexico City to Guatemala, Belize, San Jose, Panama City, Cartagena, Quito, Guayaquil, Galapagos Islands, Iquitos, Lima, Cusco, La Paz, Santiago, Punta Arenas ending at Ushuaia - suitably also called the end of the world.
Having already done Buenos Aires, Fos Iguacu and Rio I’d probably head over to Dakar and attempt the Dakar-Cairo Highway. A quick spin around the pyramids and it’s backup through europe stopping off in Ceriana to see old friends before ending up back in old blighty.

You will love the Galapagos Islands because it is the most incredible living museum of evolutionary changes, with a huge variety of exotic species (birds, land animals, plants) not seen anywhere else. The landscapes are also out of this world.
